GBW Design

When a GBW is requested we take our time to ensure all aspects of the Whip are what is required by the customer.

This includes thoughts of colour combinations, length, handle size, how whip ends, additional decorative statement items and any additional requirements.

After choosing the colour combination we discuss the types of weave that can be completed with the colours.

Here we have a colour combination of: Dark (Navy) Blue, Peacock (Royal) Blue, Graphite Grey, Black

Here at magicparacordUK we have currently six different weave designs that we use.

We have developed these to satisfy the individual requirements of customers wishing a more unique whip.

Twin Twist Accented - The Brown Gold example shows this.  Two individual twists separated by an accent colour.  Very strong, thick, minimal stretch and bend.

Standard Eight Strand - The Blue Cross Black example.  Two colours create two rising twists up the whip.  Internal accent colours can be seen when the twist is twisted open, flexed or bent.  Flexible and thick weave.

Twin Twist Six Strand - The Yellow Black example.  Three colours create two individual twists.  One colour paracord common to both twists. Strong design, minimal stretch and bend.

Twin Twist Six Strand Reversing The Red Claret example.  This is the same design as the 'Six Strand' but the twists reverse direction after a length has been woven.  Clockwise then counter-clockwise.

Standard Weave - Green Lime AND Black White examples.  This is our standard weave.  The design uses two main visible colours and appears one horizontal and one vertical as it spirals up the length.  There is a single colour internal accent cord that can be seen when whip is flexed.  Very flexible design.

Standard Stepped Weave - Pink Red White example.  Same weave as the Standard but the vertical paracords are two different colour and alternate as they progress up the spiral.  Red white red white in the example.

Once the weave design has been agreed then we do a sample so the colour combination chosen can be seen in the weave design chosen.

This sample ensures the customer is happy with the colours and weave prior to commencing a full whip weave which takes several hours.

Shown is selection above in the Standard Eight Strand Weave.  The internal Graphite and Black can be seen when looking closely but the overall appearance is a light dark blue spiral.

Once customer is happy with the sample we then start to create their GBW.

The series of photos that follow, show the GBW gradually taking form.

The customer requested a large monkey fist end with tassels.  Our monkey fist process is not shown due to its complexity.

At magicparacordUK we start from the bottom of the whip here creating a standard eight strand monkey fist and a tassel end.  To support the weave we inserted stainless steel rings at the top of the fist and along its length.  These also complemented the silver coloured clasp and skull items.

We then started the long portion of the length, repeating the weave design until the correct length to the handle base was reached.

At the base of the handle the customer had chosen a large decorative item depicting a skull wearing an animal head-dress.  At this point the weave design is also adapted to the required handle weave.

The handle design for this GBW was a combination of the Dark Blue and Peacock Blue.

Usually done in a square weave this particular handle has six cords on two opposing sides and four cords on the other two.

The weave ensured the corners met in the Peacock Blue.

This handle was then wider in one direction and stiffer, suitable for a larger hand.

Once the length of the handle has been completed, the Quick Release Clasp is then added.

This clasp is a standard item in a silver colour.  It has a sliding lock gate and release of this gate, in a downward motion, allows the lock to open.

As the GBW is attached to the clutch or brake lever (usually clutch lever) this mechanism can be operated with one hand.

After the handle has been woven in place the remainder of the paracord lengths can be used to create a handle tassel.

With this whip the customer requested long tassels, skull decorations.

Picture on shows these completed.

Excess paracord is removed and saved for smaller projects or can be used for a keyring project to complement the whip, same colours and skulls, (this was not requested).

If you wish to try and create your own twisted weave there is a pictured 'How To' here.
